Frequently asked questions
Where is an inclusive playground in Maryland?
Schooley Mill Playground in Highland is one of 5 inclusive or sensory playgrounds we list in Maryland. Others are in Columbia, Savage and Thurmont.
How many wheelchair-accessible playgrounds are in Maryland?
22 in our data: 5 inclusive, 12 wheelchair accessible, 5 partly accessible. The real number in Maryland is higher, since most newer playgrounds follow the ADA rules even when no map says so.
Do Maryland playgrounds have to be ADA accessible?
Public playgrounds built or rebuilt since March 2012 have to meet the 2010 ADA Standards, in Maryland as everywhere in the US. An older playground can lack ramps or a firm surface until it is rebuilt, so check before a long drive in Maryland.
