Frequently asked questions
Where is an inclusive playground in Illinois?
Noah's Playground for Everyone in Evanston is one of 10 inclusive or sensory playgrounds we list in Illinois. Others are in Berwyn, Peoria Heights, Aurora and Hillside.
How many wheelchair-accessible playgrounds are in Illinois?
51 in our data: 9 inclusive, 1 sensory, 33 wheelchair accessible, 8 partly accessible. Plenty of other playgrounds in Illinois meet the ADA minimum but are not tagged as accessible yet.
Do Illinois playgrounds have to be ADA accessible?
Public playgrounds built or rebuilt since March 2012 have to meet the 2010 ADA Standards, in Illinois as everywhere in the US. For older playgrounds the rules only apply after a remodel; the local parks department knows which ones have been updated.
